What is Baptism?

Baptism is the public demonstration of one placing their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

It symbolizes:

Unity with Jesus: Identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3-5).

Cleansing from Sin: Being washed and made new through His saving grace.

An Outward Expression: A tangible testimony of an inward transformation and a believer's commitment to follow Christ.

No, baptism does not secure our salvation.

Salvation is by faith alone: We are saved by grace through faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, not by works or rituals (Galatians 2:21).

The Example of the Thief on the Cross: The criminal crucified next to Jesus entered Paradise (Luke 23:43) purely by trusting Jesus, without ever being baptized.

An Act of Obedience: Baptism is the next step a believer takes after conversion to show love and obedience to Christ (2 John 1:6).

I was already baptized as an infant; isn't that enough?

While infant baptism or child christening is a meaningful tradition where parents dedicate their children to God, the Bible teaches believer's baptism.

Personal Decision: Baptism requires an individual choice to trust in Jesus. Because infants cannot make this choice, biblical examples consistently show baptism following a conscious decision to believe (Acts 8:35-38).

The Meaning of Immersion: The Greek word baptizo means to submerge or immerse, signifying a full-body picture of being buried with Christ and raised to a new life.
